Stunning the audience and dance jury with a highly synchronized routine and masterfully inserted stunts, the College of Accountancy cheer squad electrified the stage floor as they clinched the 2nd runner-up spot among ten other participants with an average score of 81.6 during the cheerleading competition of the University of the Cordilleras Intramurals 2023 pep rally last November 23 at the UC Gymnasium.
Adorned in the department vibrant green colors from their uniforms, makeup, and intricate props, the Green Wyverns cheer squad charmed the crowds right off the bat with their energy-brimming entrance and lively cheer, inciting a deafening uproar from the audience.
Throughout their number, the clamor intensified as the squad danced through each sequence, doubling the excitement of the audience each time they infused new elements to their routine, whether through perfected stunts, organized formations, ripples, or their dynamic choreography perfectly-timed to the beat of their music.
During the middle of the performance, the dancers boasted their flexibility with almost all of them doing cartwheels and handsprings, with some finishing off with poses in splits.
The squad’s stunts also included basket tosses, straight cradles, elevators in threes, bow and arrows, and their final stunt in a one-and-a-half-high pyramid.
During the last minute of the performance, the team also got to flaunt the department’s artistic skills through their dragon-themed props, putting the audience in awe of their metallic green wyvern head, dragon wings sported by one of the dancers, and giant gold fans adorned in green.
“We’ve been preparing for this event for more than a month, having everyday practices from 8-11 pm in the evening, and all of our sacrifices, hard work, misunderstandings, and frustrations paid off,” student coach of the COA cheer squad Iyvonne Ruiz Abaya said when asked about her thoughts on the team winning 3rd place.
“Being able to be in the top 3, sobrang proud na ako sa team ko, 2nd runner-up is still a good run! Panalo nating lahat ito!” she added.

“What made us win 2nd runner-up is our long preparation period, dedication, and sacrifice. Attention to detail is also important, so I made sure that every small detail is pointed out during our practices,” cheer squad leader and co-student coach Kaizer King said.
“We have no regrets as we did our best during the preparation period and the competition proper itself. I don’t think we lacked in any aspect as it is quite visible that our performance had huge potential,” King added.
The squad also extends their gratitude to all of the COA students who assisted the squad in their props preparation and to their choreographer Billmark Amino, who all made the whole journey easier.
The champion for the event was the College of Nursing, followed by the College of Business and Administration in 1st runner-up.
