PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERIES: Bridging the Gaps: Empowering Children in La Trinidad

Don’t be picky on whatever is on your table. Some people do not eat vegetables and fruits or throw away a certain food because they don’t like the taste of it. But little did they know whatever is in front of them is what others hope to have in their table.

The Philippines faces a serious challenge: hunger. Many Filipinos lack access to this basic necessity, struggling to put food on the table. The Bridging the Gaps project in La Trinidad tackles this issue head-on, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger). Even small contributions from this project can make a positive difference for our country and fellow citizens.

Iyvonne Trishia Abaya, Donna Alaiza Barrocan, Annika Joy Bermudez, Aleeyah Noelle Depalog, Genesey Gosgos, Beyonce Nicole Ibay, Aleeyah Faye Malenab, Arianne Bea Clarenz Neri, Maricris Ocampo, Gwyneth Mae Pasiliao, Khyriss Rodriguez, Isaiah Sta. Cruz, Carl Michael Verzola, and Diana Joy Viray composes the project team with the advisory under Ms. Lailanie Domingo, MBA, CPA.

The project’s beneficiaries are undernourished children in Barangay Alapang, La Trinidad, Benguet. Basic essentials including food, water, and clothing were provided. In addition, a brief program with recreational games was created to facilitate interaction between the team and the kids. With assistance from the kind donors: Eleanor S. Cruz, M.D., Amy A. Verzola, and Godis Good Eatery (Amanda Calanoc), it made the project feasible.

All of the planning and challenging moments are rewarded when the kids give you a simple “thank you” and a smile. This wasn’t just about fulfilling the requirement to pass the course; it was a profound learning experience. The team gained important insight into the struggles that members of our society confront on a daily basis. It opens our eyes to the importance of being grateful for what we have, kind to others, and appreciating all that we have. This experience will leave a lasting impact on the team, a cherished memory that goes beyond the classroom walls even as the students move on.

Together, we can create a brighter tomorrow through kindness and generosity.
