BAGUIO CITY, March 13, 2025 – In a bold call for ethical governance, students and professionals gathered at University of the Cordilleras (UC) Theater for a seminar on anti-corruption in government and career opportunities in public service.

Organized by the third-year Forensic Accounting students from the College of Accountancy (COA), the event featured renowned public servant Heidi Mendoza, who urged aspiring government workers to champion transparency and accountability.
“Corruption is a deep-rooted issue that weakens institutions and erodes public trust,” Mendoza stated. She challenged future public servants to uphold honesty and professionalism in their careers. “The fight against corruption starts with each of us. If we want a government that serves the people, we must be individuals who refuse to compromise integrity,” she added.
The event drew a diverse audience, including the UC administrative faculty, students, instructors, and professionals from COA, the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE), the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and the College of Teacher Education (CTE), as well as visitors from the University of Baguio (UB), Saint Louis University (SLU), and King’s College. Additionally, reserved guests, administrators, and members of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) were in attendance.
The seminar further highlighted career opportunities in the public sector, encouraging students to consider roles in governance, auditing, law enforcement, and policymaking. Mendoza reassured attendees that ethical public service is not only possible but necessary for national progress.
“Our country needs leaders and employees who prioritize service over personal gain. The work may be challenging, but the reward is in knowing you’ve made a difference,” Mendoza stated.
The event concluded with an open forum, where students and professionals had the opportunity to ask questions and seek advice on ethical decision-making in public professions.
