COA Students Excel at 2023 COA Week Competitions

The College of Accountancy (COA) students bagged various awards during the celebration of this year’s COA Week with the theme, “Embracing Creativity in the New Normal,” which kicked off on January 30, 2023.

In line with the celebration of COA Week, the college’s student organizations, the College Student Council, UC-JPIA, and Les Aconter, organized various competitions showcasing the students’ talents, skills, and creativity.

The event commenced with the literary competitions which allowed the COA students to showcase their writing prowess and creativity. But it wasn’t just limited to writing; other competitions were also organized, including a quiz bee, a sing and dance competition, a debate competition, and a sports fest – the COAlympics.

The quiz bee competition held on February 2 was divided into three categories: FAR (Financial Accounting and Reporting), MAS (Managerial Advisory Services), and General Knowledge (Science, Math, History, Economics, and Business). Lovely Bomowey secured 1st place in the FAR category, followed by Brandolf Yangkin and Joshua Chinalpan in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. Lian Marie Angel finished as the 1st placer in the MAS category, followed by Danah Depollo in 2nd place, and Caren Jhoy Tufay in 3rd place. In the General Knowledge category, Jorly Balbuena bagged 1st place, followed by Rhea Anayasan in 2nd place, and Charles Pineda in 3rd place.

Meanwhile, COA students flaunted their music prowess during the sing and dance competition held live at the UC theater last March 8. Crisine Carol Ocupio, Allayza Crizzette Tolentino, and Nicole Na-oy participated in the solo singing competition, while Stephen Gabriel Astillero and Edmar Lubigan joined the duet singing competition.

Further, a debate competition was also held last March 16, which comprised various categories, including environment, education, trend, politics, economics, cultural, social, and health. The team of Ivan Dave D. Chanson, Jorly D. Balbuena, and Charles B. Pineda emerged as champions, showcasing their critical thinking and argumentation skills.

Overall, the COA Week 2023 was a successful event that showcased the talents and skills of COA students. Despite the challenges brought about by the new normal, COA students proved that they can embrace creativity to adapt and excel in various activities.
