Students from BSMA 3E of the University of the Cordilleras conducted a multi-component outreach initiative, Project SICAP (Sustainability in the Community for All People), in Barangay Salud Mitra, delivering coordinated programs focused on financial literacy, health, safety, and environmental sustainability.
The initiative was led by Shekina Ewad, together with Cildon Camti, Denzel Cabico, and Trisha Leene Sales, under the guidance of Mr. Carlos Vicuña. Organized as a class-wide effort, students were divided into ten groups, each assigned to implement a specific project aligned with identified community needs.
Several projects focused on children and education. The Namragyan Project (Ipon-Credible Kids) introduced basic financial literacy, teaching the importance of saving and responsible money management. Health-related efforts included the Clean Hands, Healthy Community Project, which promoted proper hygiene practices, and Project Gabay, which provided free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings for residents. A feeding initiative, “Busog si Bunso,” supported both children and elderly beneficiaries.
Environmental and infrastructure improvements were also implemented. Project Luntian utilized recycled plastic bottles to create vertical gardens, promoting sustainability and urban greening. Waste management was addressed through the installation of trash bins under Bin It Better, while PA-KINTAB involved repainting the barangay court. Additional efforts included cleaning and maintaining flower boxes and enhancing pedestrian safety through the Iwas Dulas Project, which applied anti-slip coatings on sidewalks.
Community engagement extended to senior citizens through the BataPa Program, which organized activities aimed at strengthening social interaction and inclusion.
The initiative was supported by Barangay Salud Mitra, along with external sponsors who contributed resources for materials and implementation. The coordinated execution of multiple projects within a single outreach activity demonstrated structured planning and collaboration across teams.
Project SICAP highlighted the role of student-led initiatives in addressing diverse community needs through integrated interventions. By combining education, health services, environmental action, and infrastructure improvements, the program contributed to localized community development and engagement.
