In support of its continuing commitment to academic excellence, technological innovation, and sustainable professional development, the University of the Cordilleras (UC) College of Accountancy participated in the two-day training program titled “Empowering Accounting Education through Artificial Intelligence and Business Intelligence: A Banking Industry Audit Training Program with EY GDS,” held on September 24–25, 2026, in Taguig City.
Representing the university were faculty members Ms. Franchelle Wallis and Mr. Jerico Flores, alongside five student delegates from the UC Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (UC JPIA): Nivlem Avila, Princess Lorainne Fabrigar, Dexie Liskeng, Norodin Marangit, and Clijen Sagayo.
The program opened with technical sessions on banking sector accounting and audit methodology, led by Ms. Cheline Mariz Go, Senior Manager at EY GDS Philippines. Ms. Go shared valuable industry perspectives on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and business intelligence (BI) across financial analysis, audit execution, and banking analytics.
Building on these concepts, the second day transitioned into an interactive technical workshop led by Mr. Nico Andre J. Gestiada. Participants engaged in hands-on exercises in dashboard development, data visualization, and technology-assisted financial modeling using Microsoft Power BI, gaining practical insight into how digital tools foster evidence-based decision-making and optimize audit workflows.
This initiative underscores the College’s commitment to strengthening student competencies and faculty capabilities amid the growing integration of AI, BI, and data analytics in contemporary practice. By bridging classroom instruction with enterprise-grade industry standards, the engagement equips UC educators to enrich coursework with technology-driven learning activities while empowering aspiring accountants to thrive in a digital-first profession.
The activity contributes to the College’s efforts toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly: SDG 4 – Quality Education (Target 4.4), SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth (Target 8.6), and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (Target 9.5).
