The College of Accountancy (COA) carried out its annual Rose Planting and Clean-Up Drive on February 14 at the Rose Garden in Burnham Park. The two-hour activity gathered Accountancy students in a shared effort to promote environmental responsibility while celebrating Valentine’s Day in a meaningful way.
The event was organized by the College Student Council (CSC) in partnership with the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) and the Audit Committee. The program formally opened with an orientation led by CEPMO Officer Ma’am Sito, who briefed participants on proper planting procedures and environmental guidelines before the activity commenced.
The program included rose planting, a clean-up drive covering the entire surrounding area of the Rose Garden, and a Zumba session facilitated by students from the College of Teacher Education (CTE). After the activities, participants were given soap from “Bubbles of Care,” a project under H.E.L.E.N, as a token of appreciation.
A total of 167 rose plants were successfully planted during the activity. According to the organizers, rose planting was chosen as the main focus in response to the common practice of visitors plucking flowers from the Rose Garden. By planting new roses, students aimed to help preserve and restore the beauty of the park. The Rose Planting and Clean-Up Drive is conducted yearly every Valentine’s Day as part of the college tradition.
In her closing remarks, CSC Adviser Ma’am Julie stated, “They pluck flowers, but we plant roses,” highlighting the deeper purpose of the initiative.
Students shared that they felt fulfilled spending Valentine’s Day productively, expressing that the activity allowed them to spread love not only through celebration, but through service and care for the community.
