Students from BSMA 3F of the University of the Cordilleras conducted an advocacy-driven outreach program addressing violence against women and children (VAWC) through Project ACE—Awareness, Compassion, and Empowerment—held at Bakakeng National High School.
The initiative, led by Project Head Hero Alexis Quiao under the guidance of Mr. Datsun Montes, was organized in line with Women’s Month. It aimed to educate junior and senior high school students on recognizing, understanding, and responding to VAWC, while promoting safe spaces for discussion and awareness.
A central component of the program was a seminar conducted in partnership with representatives from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). The session covered key topics including forms of abuse, behavioral indicators, legal protections, and available support systems for victims. Participants were introduced to relevant laws and local mechanisms for reporting and assistance, providing them with practical knowledge applicable to real-life situations.
To reinforce learning, the program incorporated interactive activities through themed booths. Students rotated across stations that featured games, discussions, and scenario-based exercises designed to deepen understanding of VAWC-related issues. Each participant received a mini booklet containing emergency hotlines, summaries of key laws, and reflection prompts, serving as a take-home resource for continued awareness.
The activity emphasized participatory learning, allowing students to engage with sensitive topics in an accessible and structured environment. The combination of formal discussion and interactive elements enabled participants to process information while actively applying concepts introduced during the seminar.
Hygiene kits were also distributed at the end of the program, complementing the advocacy with a tangible form of support. The initiative drew active participation from both students and faculty, reflecting strong engagement with the topic.
Project ACE demonstrated the role of student-led initiatives in advancing social awareness and education on critical issues. By integrating structured learning sessions with interactive engagement, the program contributed to increasing awareness, promoting informed responses, and encouraging dialogue on violence prevention among youth.
