UC-COA Takes Part in the PICPA Career Guidance Program

With the objective to provide a clearer understanding of the accounting profession, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA)-Baguio-Benguet-Mountain Province Chapter, in partnership with the University of the Cordilleras College of Accountancy (UC-COA), conducted a Career Guidance Program for aspiring accountants at the UC Theater.

The program was graced with distinguished speakers who were professionals in accounting expertise; Ms. Loida G. Bialno, Managing Partner – Adag Bialno and Co., CPAs, and Ms. Kristine Joy Ismael, Partner-Ismael and Co., CPAs. Both speakers imparted their personal stories and insights on how they achieved their titles as Certified Public Accountants (CPAs).

Ms. Bialno provided an in-depth discussion about the different accounting sectors, the regular salary these sectors may provide, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. She also expounded on the current ‘shortage’ of accountants in the Philippines, assuring that there is a continuous demand in this industry. Additionally, Ms. Ismael highlighted the development of the professional self, building solid foundations, and providing tips to navigate the accounting career.

With an open mic talk, students were able to clarify and communicate their queries by the end of the program. “If you’re passionate about your work, income will follow,” Ms. Bialno added to answer students’ concerns about passion and income. When asked about the possibilities of failure, Ms. Ismael emphasized the inevitability of failure and how students must learn to trust the process.

Aside from UC-COA, accountancy students from the University of Baguio (UB) also attended the event. PICPA representative, Ms. Kamille Bagwel, stated that this program is open to everyone regardless of taking board or non-board accounting courses. She further added that programs such as this can be held on a regular basis depending on the requests of the university.
